Contrary to reports circulating in some media outlets, the recent arrest of five alleged cultists following a deadly clash did not take place in Badagry, but in Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) under Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The violent confrontation reportedly occurred in the Onireke and Isashi communities, both located within Ojo Local Government Area, and not in Badagry as wrongly reported, Badagry Today understands..

Although one of the victims was reportedly confirmed dead at the Badagry General Hospital, sources clarified that the hospital was only where the victim was taken for emergency care, not the scene of the incident.

According to the original reports making the rounds, the Lagos State Police Command arrested five suspected cultists after responding to a violent clash between rival cult groups in Onireke and Isashi on Saturday night. Onireke and Isashi are not in Badagry

The report says, Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrests, noting that the suspects, aged between 28 and 43, were apprehended in a coordinated operation that swiftly restored calm to the affected communities.

“Officers responded to a distress call around 10:00 p.m. reporting a cult clash in Onireke and Isashi. Three victims were rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment, while one was unfortunately confirmed dead by a doctor at Badagry General Hospital,” Adebisi said.

She added that a subsequent raid in the area led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, a Toyota Avalon (KTU 610 JB), a laptop, mobile phones, and other dangerous weapons.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh commended the swift response of the operatives and reiterated the command’s resolve to stamp out cultism and related crimes across Lagos.

Residents have been urged to remain law-abiding and promptly report any suspicious activity to nearby police stations.

In summary, the reported clash and arrests did not occur in Badagry as some outlets suggested, but in Ojo Local Government, specifically within Iba LCDA, covering Onireke and Isashi communities.
