On Sept tember 27, 2025, the Peace and Liberation in Africa through Change and Engagement (PLACE Africa Network), in collaboration with Badagry-Africa Child and Youth Development Initiative and MAEJT Nigeria, organized a one-day advocacy and sensitization campaign on human trafficking and other organized crimes. The event brought together students from Lagos State University of Education, Epe, Lagos State University, Epe Campus, and Government Technical College Epe, also present were members of the clergy, representatives of youth groups and representatives of traditional institutions.

The campaign provided a platform for discussing the pressing issue of human trafficking and its devastating consequences on both individuals and society at large. Participants engaged in meaningful conversations around the emotional, physical, and psychological toll trafficking takes on victims. The discussions were aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of the issue among the youth and community leaders present.

The activity was facilitated by young leaders and change makers within the civil society space, notably among others are; Amb. Kehinde Gbethozin, M&E Officer, MAEJT Nigeria, Ms. Zainab Ahmed, President, Global South Coalition for Dignified Menstruation, Nigeria Chapter, Comr. Emmanuel Waba, Coordinator of Green Future Initiative.

Several case studies were examined during the event, shedding light on the different dimensions of trafficking. The root causes identified included socio-economic hardship, low social status, family background, poverty, peer group influence, and lack of awareness. These factors often make individuals, especially young people, vulnerable to traffickers who exploit their desperation or lack of information.

At the conclusion of the one-day advocacy program, participants unanimously agreed on the need for a sustainable mechanism that would support ongoing advocacy and awareness initiatives. It was emphasized that continuous sensitization efforts are essential to effectively reduce the incidence of human trafficking and promote the well-being and safety of individuals within society.

The organizer's appreciation goes to Libera Association. Libera is a network of associations, social cooperatives, movements and groups, schools, unions, dioceses, parishes, and scout groups, involved in a commitment not only against mafias, corruption, crime and those who feed them, but also strongly 'for': for social justice, the search for truth, the protection of rights, transparent politics, a democratic legality based on equality, a living and shared memory, and for a citizenship that lives up to the spirit and hopes of the Constitution.
