Lagos Upgrades Emergency Response in Badagry GH, LASUTH, Others with New Ambulance Facilities, Digital Dashboard

The Lagos State Government has stepped up its emergency healthcare services with fresh investments in ambulance facilities, digital technology, and trained personnel across major hospitals, including Badagry General Hospital and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

Speaking on the new developments, the Director of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), Beatrice Makinde, said the upgrades are part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to improving response time and saving more lives during emergencies, report by Guardian News sys

According to her, LASAMBUS currently operates five fully functional ambulance bases strategically positioned at General Hospital Lagos, LASUTH, Federal Medical Centre Epe, Badagry General Hospital, and Ikorodu General Hospital. These locations were carefully chosen based on accident-prone areas and traffic conditions.

Makinde explained that while several ambulance points were vandalised during the EndSARS protests, 15 out of 28 have since been restored—10 with government funding and five through private sector support.

To strengthen capacity, 198 LASAMBUS staff have been trained in basic life support, trauma management, and first aid, while 60 new nurses have been recruited to fill manpower gaps caused by the migration of health workers.

In response to Lagos’ traffic gridlock, the state has also introduced 10 brand-new ambulance motorbikes, designed to cut through congestion and reach patients faster before a regular ambulance arrives.

“Sometimes an ambulance is on its way to pick up a patient, a surgeon, or even blood, and every second counts. Motorists need to understand the importance of giving way,” Makinde stressed.

Beyond mobility, LASAMBUS has rolled out a digital dashboard that captures real-time emergency data and is building a system to track bed space availability across public and private hospitals. This will ensure patients are referred only to facilities that can attend to them immediately, reducing delays in critical care.

With these initiatives, the Lagos State Government says it is positioning its emergency response system to meet global standards while addressing the unique challenges of a bustling megacity.
