2027: Jandor Joins SMA, Ambode, Seyi Tinubu in Lagos Governorship Race

Former Lagos PDP governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jandor, who dumped the PDP in March and returned to the APC just two weeks later, was a major challenger to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the 2023 elections, where he ran alongside Nollywood star Funke Akindele as his deputy candidate.

Speaking during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary celebrations, Jandor threw his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying the President deserves a second term to consolidate on his achievements.

“As for Lagos, I am once again offering myself to serve. I’m running in the 2027 governorship race,” Jandor declared, while brushing aside speculations about other likely contenders such as Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, and former governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Another major aspirant, Samuel Mawuyon Ajose (SMA) from Badagry, has also showed interest. SMA, as he is fondly called, said his ambition is rooted in ending the marginalization of the Badagry Division in Lagos politics. At the recent launch of the SMA Foundation in Badagry, he dismissed claims that the area lacks competent and financially capable candidates.

“Badagry has produced men and women of capacity, not just myself, who are more than capable of contesting and winning the Lagos governorship,” he said.

Jandor, on his part, stressed that his political journey has always been strategic and impactful. “When it was time for me to step fully into Lagos politics, I came all out and shook the establishment. Soon, we’ll begin mobilising with the party and Mr President to ensure APC fields a strong candidate in 2027. Let me be clear: I am running,” he affirmed.

Praising Tinubu’s leadership, Jandor described the President as “progressive and visionary,” urging Lagosians and Nigerians at large to give him a second term.

“President Tinubu has shown courage and vision in leading this country. Nigerians should rally behind him so we can continue reaping the benefits of his progressive leadership,” he added, expressing optimism that the nation’s future “holds brighter promises.”
