The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance during the final edition of the 2026 Budget Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum held at the Council Secretariat, Badagry.
The event brought together representatives from various community groups, traditional institutions, religious bodies, artisans, youth and women associations, and political stakeholders across the ten wards of the local government.
In his address titled “Budget of Inclusion and Development,” Hon. Hunpe described the forum as one of the most important aspects of participatory democracy, where citizens contribute directly to shaping the development priorities of their communities.
“From the onset of this administration, we made a conscious decision to make governance inclusive, transparent, and people-driven. Today’s engagement is a reflection of that promise,” he said.
Hunpe announced that councillors have been mobilised to hold similar meetings in their respective wards to gather more inputs and feedback from residents to enrich the 2026 budget formulation process.
“We want every resident—from Ajido to Topo, from Idale to Badagry Town, from Ajara to Yafin, from Agadangba to Erekiti, and from Ikoga to Pota—to have a voice in how government resources are used,” he added.
The chairman also highlighted notable achievements recorded by his administration within its first few months, including the remodelling of Pota Primary Health Centre, the construction of three strategic roads scheduled for commissioning as part of his first 100 days in office, and the unification of tourism practitioners under the newly established Confederation of Badagry Tourism Practitioners.
He further mentioned the ongoing greening and beautification of the Badagry Grammar School fence along Joseph Dosu Road, which he said aligns with his vision of a cleaner and more attractive Badagry.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to women’s empowerment, Hunpe disclosed plans to expand the annual Badagry Women Symposium to promote entrepreneurship and recognize women’s contributions to local development.
“This meeting is not just for speeches; it is for dialogue. It provides a platform for all stakeholders—traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, artisans, and civil society groups—to collectively shape the future of our community,” he emphasized.
He assured that the 2026 budget would reflect the genuine aspirations of the people and called on all residents to continue supporting his administration’s drive for transparency and participatory governance.
The guest lecturer, Mr. Jonathan Minasu Ogun from the Lagos State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, explained that the stakeholders’ engagement is an essential tool for aligning government policies with citizens’ needs. He emphasized that such forums strengthen accountability and promote sustainable grassroots development.
Earlier, councillors had conducted ward-level meetings to gather residents’ views and identify priority projects, which were presented at the final forum.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Council Manager, Mrs. Mary Abosede Olusanya, commended all participants for their active engagement and thoughtful contributions. She assured that all submissions would be duly considered in the 2026 budget.
The event was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi; Leader of the House, Hon. Bankole Mautin Asokere; APC Chairman, Hon. Gafar Meyon; traditional rulers; market leaders; youth and women representatives; and members of the Community Development Committee, among others.
