PDP Slams Speaker Abbas Over Nigeria’s Debt: ‘Hypocrite for Approving Tinubu’s Loans’

ABUJA — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called out House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas for hypocrisy over his warnings about Nigeria’s rising debt. PDP Deputy National Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor accused Abbas of approving President Bola Tinubu’s borrowing requests while lamenting the country’s N149 trillion debt.

Osadolor said Abbas, along with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, “should bury their heads in shame” for putting future generations at risk. He argued that if Abbas lacks the courage to say no to excessive borrowing, he should resign.

Recalling the resistance of the Bukola Saraki-led Senate to Buhari’s borrowing, Osadolor said the current legislature has become a “rubber stamp.” He urged the Speaker to prioritize Nigerians’ interests, apologize for his complicity, and step aside if necessary.

Highlighting solutions, Osadolor stressed the need for strong, independent institutions and leaders with moral courage, fiscal discipline, and integrity to curb reckless borrowing and ensure accountability.
