The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an Indian businessman, Gupta Ravi Kumar, along with three Nigerians — Ogunlana Noah Olanrewaju, Olushola Idrees Kayode, and Bakare Korede Muheeb — following the seizure of over 2.2 million pills of Tramadol valued at ₦3.99 billion.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the shipment came from Delhi, India, disguised as multivitamins and packed in 114 cartons. It arrived at Lagos airport aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight on September 8, 2025. After days of surveillance, NDLEA operatives intercepted a clearing agent and two drivers who tried to move the drugs out of the airport in two trucks. The following day, Gupta was arrested when he came to take delivery of the consignment.
Earlier that week, NDLEA officers intercepted a passenger, Onyeganochi Stanley Ifeanyi, at Terminal 2 of Lagos airport as he prepared to board a Qatar Airways flight to Doha. He was found with 900 grams of skunk hidden inside crayfish. Onyeganochi, a first-time traveller, claimed that the bag had been given to him by a Qatar-based Nigerian, Ohadiegwu Anthony Uchenna, who was also arrested. A search of Uchenna’s hotel room in Ajao Estate uncovered an additional 200 grams of the same drug.
At Tincan Port in Lagos, NDLEA recovered 161 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 81.7kg and 1.2kg of hashish oil hidden in a 40-foot container of vehicle spare parts imported from Canada. Two suspects, John Ochigbo and Okeke Kingsley, were arrested. Another shipment of 65kg of Loud linked to the same consignment was later intercepted on the Third Mainland Bridge inside a Toyota Sienna, and the driver, Abubakar Ibrahim, was taken into custody.
Officers also intercepted drug parcels in the courier system, including 6 grams of methamphetamine concealed in a picture frame bound for Gabon and 1.1kg of Loud hidden inside video players headed for the UAE.
In Ikorodu, Lagos, a factory producing “skuchies,” a mix of cannabis and blackcurrant drink, was raided. Over 6,000 bottles of the drink and 4,232kg of cannabis were recovered, and the factory manager, Joy Awosika, was arrested. Another suspect, Akeem Oriola, was caught in Mushin with 26kg of skunk.
Similar operations took place across the country. In Abuja, dispatch rider Godsplan Vincent was arrested with cocaine and Loud. In Oyo, three women, Faidat Azeez, Alanu Fatimoh, and Mojeed Taiwo, were caught with 17kg of skunk. In Kano, 100,000 Tramadol pills were seized from Musa Shuaibu, while other suspects were arrested with Akuskura, skunk, rubber solution, and other dangerous substances. In Anambra, a couple, Nzube and Ebele Onyedika, were arrested with methamphetamine and skunk, while another suspect, Nnamchi Tochukwu, was found with various hard drugs including meth, tramadol, swinol, heroin, and skunk. In Yobe, NDLEA recovered 22.1kg of cannabis fromthe home of Mohammed Auwal in Potiskum. In Ogun, three suspected traffickers were arrested in Imeko with nearly 400kg of skunk, alongside motorcycles used to transport the drugs. In Edo, NDLEA destroyed nearly 17 tonnes of cannabis on a plantation in Ugbogyi Forest, Ovia South West, and arrested four suspects.
NDLEA also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns across schools, motor parks, mosques, and communities. The agency’s chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised officers for their efforts and urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
