The political atmosphere in Lagos State is beginning to shift ahead of the 2027 elections as structures of the Labour Party in the Badagry Division — covering Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ojo, Amuwo Odofin, and Badagry LGAs — have officially merged with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The landmark development was confirmed in a press statement signed by Mabel Oboh, Director of Communications, ADC Lagos State chapter.
According to the statement, the alliance, championed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, signals a new wave of political collaboration, designed to unite progressive forces and strengthen the party’s base in Lagos.
Representing ADC’s state chairman, George Ashiru, at the event was Dr. Emmanuel Ochie, supported by the Lagos West executive committee. The gathering drew a large crowd of stakeholders and founding members of the Labour Party across the division.
Chief Bartlommy Chima, popularly known as Omobacca, described the merger as a turning point that could reshape Lagos politics.
Also in attendance were prominent political figures including former Osun State Governor and ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and Rahman Owokoniran. Their presence, Oboh said, underscored ADC’s commitment to inclusive leadership and empowerment as the country prepares for 2027.
Speaking at the meeting, Aregbesola addressed the newly inducted members and outlined ADC’s people-focused ideology, anchored on inclusivity. He stressed the party’s constitutional commitment to allocate 35% of political positions to youths and another 35% to women — a policy unmatched in Nigeria’s political history.
The former governor also used his Facebook page to clear misconceptions about ADC, insisting the party is firmly against godfatherism, elitist dominance, and moneybag politics.
“The ADC belongs to everyone; it can never be anyone’s personal property,” he wrote. “These guarantees for youths and women are unprecedented, and that is why this coalition has chosen ADC as its platform.”
He further urged Nigerians to embrace the party as the alternative to what he described as “the current anti-people government,” declaring that the ADC represents a true people’s government for a better Nigeria.
The merger, according to the party, is not just a political arrangement but a movement to redefine leadership and governance in Lagos State and beyond.
