The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, beginning Monday, August 18, 2025, with an online pre-registration option available for eligible Nigerians.
According to the electoral body, the exercise is open to citizens who have just attained the age of 18, adults who have never registered before, as well as individuals seeking replacement of lost, defaced, or damaged Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs).
Step 1: Online Registration
From August 18, eligible voters are expected to visit www.cvr.inecnigeria.org to complete an online registration form. After filling in the required details, applicants are to generate and print a registration slip, which must be presented at the nearest INEC Local Government office.
Step 2: Physical Biometrics Capture
Beginning August 25, applicants must visit INEC Local Government offices for the compulsory biometric capture, which includes fingerprint and facial data collection. INEC emphasized that registration will not be considered valid without this physical verification.
Walk-In Registration Available
For those without internet access, INEC has also provided a walk-in option, where applicants can register directly at Local Government offices nationwide. The commission stressed that the exercise is free of charge.
Who Can Register?
INEC listed the following categories as eligible:
-
Nigerians who have never registered before
-
Citizens who recently turned 18 years old
-
Individuals who lost their PVCs (replacement allowed)
-
Voters with defaced or damaged cards
The commission urged Nigerians to seize this opportunity to secure their PVCs, describing it as a critical step toward participating in future elections and strengthening democratic governance.
