Lagos Declares August 20 Public Holiday for 2025 Isese Day

The Lagos State Government has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Isese Day.

The declaration, contained in a circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, reaffirms the administration’s commitment to promoting indigenous culture, traditions, and heritage, while also strengthening traditional institutions across the state.

According to the circular, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu approved the holiday to allow public servants and residents of Lagos to fully participate in the celebrations.

Work is expected to resume on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.

“All Accounting Officers are enjoined to note the contents of this circular and give it the deserved service-wide publicity,” the statement read in part.

Isese Day, celebrated annually by adherents of Yoruba traditional religion, is dedicated to preserving cultural values and honoring ancestral heritage.
