LASU Student Leader Sedomo Ajisegiri Rallies Youth to Embrace Leadership Through Action and Service

In a powerful double outing that resonated across Lagos State University, rising student leader Sedomo Ajisegiri delivered two stirring speeches that electrified audiences and placed a spotlight on youth leadership, civic responsibility, and the transformative power of extracurricular involvement.

Speaking at two separate forums—the Communication Students Association Panel Session and the MentorMeNG x SOSSA-LASU Boot Camp—Ajisegiri challenged fellow students to stop waiting for the future and instead start leading from where they are.

"Don’t Just Pass Through the University—Let It Pass Through You"

At the Communication Students Association panel themed “How Students Can Navigate Their Future: How Extracurricular Activities Shape Today’s Leaders,” Ajisegiri struck a chord with hundreds of communication undergraduates, reminding them that titles do not make leaders—actions do.

“Leadership doesn’t start the day you get a title. It starts when you decide to step outside your comfort zone,” he declared, drawing applause from the audience.

Using his own journey through volunteerism as a case study, Ajisegiri emphasized the core values instilled through service—teamwork, resilience, and humility.

“Volunteerism has taught me that you can’t build change alone, that not every plan will succeed on the first try, and that leadership is first about service, not power,” he said.

In his call to action, he urged students not to merely chase academic degrees but to immerse themselves in clubs, societies, and service opportunities that sharpen leadership instincts and shape character.

"Leadership Is Service. Citizenship Is Responsibility. Action Is Non-Negotiable."

Just days later, at the MentorMeNG x SOSSA-LASU Boot Camp themed “Student Leadership, Active Citizenship, and Community Action,” Ajisegiri once again commanded the room—this time with a focus on civic engagement and real-world impact.

Sharing his experience as a student parliamentarian and as Director of Planning and Operations for the Clean Up Badagry Initiative, Ajisegiri made it clear that leadership and citizenship are inseparable.

“Active citizenship means more than voting or speaking up—it means rolling up your sleeves and doing the work,” he said. “It means seeing a problem and deciding, ‘I will be part of the solution.’”

He warned against passivity and challenged his peers not to wait for a future moment to lead.

“The world will not change because we hope it will. It will change because we act,” he concluded, earning a standing ovation from an audience filled with students, facilitators, and youth leaders from across Lagos.

Ajisegiri, known for his articulate voice and growing influence within LASU’s student political structure, has carved a niche as a youth leader who blends advocacy with action. Whether in the halls of student parliament or the streets of Badagry tackling environmental issues, he has become a relatable symbol of grassroots leadership.

His recent speeches have sparked renewed interest in student civic involvement across LASU campuses, with many attendees taking to social media to share clips and quotes that reflect the urgency and authenticity of his message.

Ajisegiri’s message is clear: the time for passive ambition is over. With institutions and communities facing increasing challenges—from governance deficits to environmental crises—Nigeria’s next generation must be prepared not only academically but morally and civically.

In the words of the young leader himself:
“Don’t wait for the future to call you into leadership—start leading now.”.
