Hunpe Partners Zangan Leaders to Strengthen Security in Badagry

The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to community safety by partnering with the Zangan, the traditional security chiefs of the Ogu people.

Speaking at a stakeholder meeting on Saturday with Zangan leaders and local security heads appointed by traditional rulers, Hunpe emphasized the critical role of traditional structures in complementing formal security agencies.

He noted that his recent consultations with military and paramilitary formations revealed that local intelligence and vigilance remain central to tackling emerging security challenges in Badagry.

“Our people deserve to sleep safe and sound,” Hunpe declared. “Nigeria does not have enough policemen to cover every community, which is why your role is vital. You are the first point of contact for both government and security agencies, and you must take your responsibilities seriously.”

The council chairman further announced that the local government’s Chief Security Adviser, CSP Adagba Johnson (rtd), would work closely with the Zangan to provide guidance on effective collaboration with security formations.

Hunpe stressed that synergy between traditional security structures and conventional agencies is essential to sustaining peace and stability in the area.

Responding, some Zangan leaders hailed the initiative as a proactive step that would bridge existing security gaps and foster greater cooperation between local communities and the government.
