Iragon-Thogli, a historic community in Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, has been announced as the official host of the 2025 Zangbeto Festival, a grand cultural showcase to mark this year’s Isese Day.
The three-day festival, scheduled to hold from August 20 to August 22, 2025, will bring together cultural enthusiasts, scholars, tourists, and spiritual seekers from within and outside Nigeria for an immersive experience of Ogu heritage, ancestral pride, and spiritual symbolism.
Organizers describe the Zangbeto Festival as “more than a spectacle,” stressing that it is a vital expression of the people’s identity—connecting the past to the present while preserving traditions for future generations.
Highlights of the festival will include the traditional Tọba dance performances, electrifying Gangbe and Akohun music ensembles, and a rare live appearance of the legendary Zangbeto Tapenmede, revered as the mystical night guardian of the Ogu people.
Speaking ahead of the event, community leaders noted that the festival is expected to attract global attention as one of Africa’s most captivating indigenous celebrations, reinforcing Badagry’s place as a hub of cultural and spiritual tourism.
“All roads lead to Iragon-Thogli this August,” the statement added, “as we come together not just to celebrate, but to keep the culture alive.”
