Fresh from his official swearing-in by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren — popularly known as RIKAY — received a thunderous welcome on Sunday, July 27, in his hometown of Enuko, Badagry West LCDA.
RIKAY, now the Executive Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), didn’t waste time getting into action. The homecoming event was filled with energy, gratitude, and a powerful call to duty as he began his tenure with solemn prayers and heartfelt words.
The ceremony kicked off with a prayer session led by the Chief Imam of Akoko, who asked for divine wisdom, guidance, and success for the new administration.
In his first official speech as Chairman, RIKAY expressed deep appreciation to those who helped shape his political journey. He gave special honour to Hon. Bamgbose Joseph, describing him not just as a political leader, but as a life-long mentor.
“Hon. Bamgbose is more than a leader — he is my father, my guide, and my mentor. He believed in me even when I doubted myself. Today is the fruit of his years of investment in my growth, and I promise not to disappoint.”
RIKAY also paid glowing tribute to his immediate predecessor, Hon. Gbenu Joseph, whom he praised for his leadership and support.
“Chairman Gbenu is a good man with a large heart. He led with vision and truly loved his people. I am honoured to follow his footsteps and I thank him deeply for his support and encouragement.”
Standing before a cheering crowd of supporters, RIKAY didn’t mince words about his readiness to hit the ground running.
“We are not waiting to be comfortable — work begins now! By tomorrow, we roll out our plans. My administration will be fast-paced, transparent, and responsive. You can hold me to that.”
He used the opportunity to encourage residents to take voter registration seriously ahead of the 2027 elections.
“You voted me in and I’m grateful. But it doesn’t end here. Let’s prepare for the future. Your PVC is your power — it’s your ATM to influence governance. Without it, you’re only watching from the sidelines.”
RIKAY rounded off his remarks by thanking the people of Badagry West — from party leaders to grassroots supporters — for believing in him.
“To every party faithful, every leader, and every ordinary citizen who trusted me — thank you. I will not let you down. Together, we’ll build a Badagry West that we’ll all be proud of.”
The event also saw speeches from political heavyweights. Hon. Bamgbose Joseph, the respected Apex Leader of Badagry West, praised RIKAY’s character and potential.
“Rauf Yemaren is loyal, humble, and responsible. He is a product of consistency and learning. I am proud of him, and I know he will deliver for our people. Let’s give him our full support.”
Former Chairman Hon. Gbenu Joseph also addressed the crowd, expressing pride in RIKAY and offering his continued support.
“Thank you for standing by me during my tenure. RIKAY is capable, and I am proud to call him my successor. Let’s keep moving forward, united and in peace.”
Dignitaries at the event included LGA Party Chairman Mr. Peter Metome, Chief Frederick Ajaneson, Chief Gbenupo, Alhaja Okejale Osenatu, and the LGA Woman Leader — all of whom pledged their support for the new administration and expressed optimism about the future of Badagry West LCDA.
With such a strong start, all eyes are now on RIKAY as he steps fully into office — with bold promises, high expectations, and the hopes of a people ready for progress.
