In a shocking twist of betrayal, the Enugu State Police Command has arrested two sisters—both serving security officers—for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of their own brother and collecting a ransom of ₦30 million for his release, report by Punch says
The suspects, Juliet Chukwu, a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, are said to have masterminded the abduction of their elder brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu. The siblings all hail from Amaeze village in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to reports, Mr. Chukwu was kidnapped last month along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. Investigations revealed that his sisters had a hand in his disappearance, manipulating events behind the scenes until the ransom was paid.
The case took another dark turn when it was discovered that the same duo was behind the kidnapping of Engineer Dennis Igwe, the General Manager of China Oriental Mining Company. He was abducted on the same route on Monday, July 14, 2025, and a ransom of ₦10 million was demanded.
Their luck ran out when they were tracked and arrested in a hotel room while allegedly trying to share the ₦10 million ransom collected for Igwe's release.
Social media commentator and activist, Comrade Chika Nwoba, who raised an alarm about the situation, expressed concern that the case must not be swept under the rug. Writing on Facebook, he said:
“News broke in June 2025 about the kidnap of Mr. Friday Chukwu—elder brother to Mrs. Juliet Chukwu, a Civil Defence officer, and Mrs. Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, an Immigration officer—all from Amaeze, Ishiagu. It was alleged that ₦30 million was paid before Mr. Chukwu was freed.
Weeks later, on July 14, the CLO of China Oriental Quarry, Engr. Igwe Denis, was also abducted on the same route. The suspects were caught in a hotel while sharing ransom money. There are allegations linking them to other crimes in Ishiagu, including aiding herders in staging kidnaps, vandalizing pipelines, and looting railway materials.
This case must not be treated like previous ones. The NSCDC and Immigration authorities must take decisive action."
Chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, Chief Emmanuel Ajah, confirmed the arrest of the two women but emphasized that both kidnappings occurred outside his jurisdiction.
“Yes, we are aware of the incidents, though they happened in Enugu State. Mr. Friday Chukwu, who is my friend, was indeed a victim. His two sisters have been arrested. I’ve written to the Enugu Police Command and the Ebonyi State NSCDC to demand swift and thorough investigations,” he said.
Ajah added that four other suspects linked to the case are still on the run, and efforts are ongoing to track them down.
Punch Says efforts to reach the Ebonyi State Police Command for an official response were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, did not respond to inquiries at the time of filing this report.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about criminal infiltration within the country’s security agencies and the growing trend of family betrayals fueled by greed.
