Man Brutally Beaten, Thrown Off Lagos Bridge, Suffers Multiple Spinal Injuries, Battles for Survival

A 45-year-old father, Ismail Oreniwon — popularly known as "LC" in his Oshodi-Arowojobe community — is fighting for his life at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) after surviving a horrifying attack that left him with multiple spinal and pelvic fractures.

The incident happened on July 9 around the Ogunmokun area of Mushin, Lagos. Ismail was on his way home when he encountered some suspected hoodlums. He initially tried to cross the railway tracks but changed his mind when the area looked unsafe.

He then decided to take the pedestrian bridge. Unfortunately, the hoodlums followed him, beat him mercilessly, and pushed him off the bridge.

He landed face-first on the railway tracks below, breaking several bones in his mouth, spine, and lower body. It was a miracle he survived.

Some good Samaritans rushed him to the Mushin General Hospital where he received emergency care before being moved to the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Igbobi. From there, he was referred to LASUTH due to the severity of his injuries.

A detailed medical report revealed multiple fractures, including a shattered pelvic bone and serious spinal damage. The injuries are so extensive that he now requires urgent surgery estimated at over ₦8 million to repair his mouth and legs.

Speaking weakly from his hospital bed, Ismail recounted the painful incident:
“Two of them chased me. My leg is broken. The wound is healing, but I still can’t walk. At first, I used to soil myself because I wasn’t conscious. We’ve spent over ₦300,000 already. I use drugs every day. What’s left now is the surgery.”

He is now appealing to kind-hearted Nigerians, religious bodies, community leaders, and politicians for help. Time is running out, and the longer the surgery is delayed, the worse his condition gets.
