The newly sworn-in Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has pledged to focus on reviving and promoting Badagry’s tourism sector as a major part of his administration's agenda.
Speaking during his official swearing-in ceremony held at the Nigeria French Language Village, Ajara, Badagry, Hon. Hunpe thanked residents for their support and appealed for patience, assuring them that real development takes time, planning, and teamwork.
In his speech, he acknowledged the work of his predecessor, Hon. Onilude Segun Adeniran, and promised to build on the foundation already laid, especially in key areas like roads, healthcare, agriculture, and education.
However, he made it clear that tourism would receive special attention.
“Badagry is well known for its history and tourist sites, but there’s still so much more we can do to grow the sector,” Hunpe said. “We must go beyond being known—we need to actually develop our tourism infrastructure, improve the visitor experience, and make Badagry a top destination not just in Nigeria, but across West Africa.”
He added that a vibrant tourism industry will help create jobs, empower young people, and generate more income for the local economy.
Hon. Hunpe also used the opportunity to express gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for driving the Renewed Hope Agenda and to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support for grassroots development.
He thanked leaders and supporters from across Badagry for their continued faith in his leadership. Some of those specially appreciated include Mr. Samuel Ajose, Bamgbose Joseph, Leader Ogunbiyi, and other respected community stakeholders.
With high hopes and clear goals, Hunpe’s message was simple: together, we can make Badagry greater than ever before.
