Lagos APC Releases 57 Council Chairmanship Candidates List Despite Massive Protests and Pending Appeals

Despite growing unrest within its ranks, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has moved ahead with preparations for the upcoming local government elections, releasing a list of 57 chairmanship candidates for the July 12 polls. These names were also published in the Nation newspaper on Monday May 12th, 2025 in page 35

This announcement comes even as tensions remain high following the fallout from last Saturday’s primary elections. Several aggrieved aspirants have contested the outcomes, prompting the party to set up an appeal process to address their grievances. The appeals hearing is scheduled to take place today, May 13, and will be chaired by Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Pedro Lawal.

However, in a controversial move, the party released its final list of candidates before the appeals process was concluded. The document, obtained by Badagry Today, was jointly signed by APC State Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Chairman of the Election Committee Babatunde Ogala, and the party’s State Secretary, Dr. Adeola Jokomba. The list is likely to be submitted to the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), unless the appeal slated to hold today is not a charade as expected.

The development has further angered some party members, with a number of aspirants planning to stage a protest today at the APC secretariat in Ogba, Ikeja. They argue that publishing the final list ahead of the appeal hearings undermines the credibility of the process and disregards their legitimate concerns.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on how the party leadership will navigate the internal discontent and maintain unity ahead of the elections.
