Chief Charles Udeogaranya, a former presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019, has firmly rejected the notion of granting President Bola Tinubu an automatic ticket to run in the 2027 presidential election.

His statement comes in response to the recent endorsement of President Tinubu by the APC leadership, governors, and National Assembly members during the party’s National Summit in Abuja.

Udeogaranya dismissed the idea of automatic or preferential treatment for any aspirant, insisting that the 2027 presidential ticket must be open to fair competition. In a statement personally signed and released, he reiterated his commitment to contesting the APC presidential primary.

"While I deeply and respectfully appreciate my fellow APC members and their Abuja Summit, I must also make it clear that democracy — the same principle declared by Thomas Jefferson in 1776, reinforced by Abraham Lincoln in Gettysburg, and echoed by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963 — must not fail in Nigeria," Udeogaranya said.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s pressing challenges require more than unity behind a single candidate. “There can be no consensus in the face of widespread hunger and poverty, no consensus when our economy is struggling, no consensus amid rising insecurity, nepotism, and clueless leadership,” he declared. “Leadership must go beyond personal interests.”

Udeogaranya concluded by reaffirming his intention to run for president on the APC platform, pledging to offer Nigerians a new vision built on creativity, patriotism, and inclusive prosperity.
