Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has raised alarm over alleged plans by a party chieftain to hijack and manipulate the forthcoming congresses in Lagos State.
In an open letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) on Friday, George accused the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Setonji Koshoedo, of cornering and controlling the distribution of congress forms with the intention of manipulating the process.
George, who is also a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), described Koshoedo’s alleged actions as dangerous, unjust, and capable of plunging the Lagos PDP into crisis ahead of the ward and local government congresses.
“It is worrisome that Koshoedo, who has not been actively involved in the activities of the party in Lagos, either financially or otherwise, collected the forms and decided to single-handedly dictate how they would be distributed. This completely disregards the efforts of party leaders who have been working hard to build consensus among members,” George said.
He warned that such actions could trigger acrimony, unrest, and even legal battles, stressing that the sidelining of Lagos PDP leaders, including two life members of the BOT, was “insulting and unacceptable.”
George appealed to the NWC to urgently intervene to avert a political crisis, reminding the party that its poor performance in the 2023 general elections was largely due to internal sabotage, selfish ambition, and lack of unity.
According to him, the Lagos chapter is prepared to ensure forms are distributed fairly and transparently to all contestants, rather than being monopolized.
The PDP has scheduled its national convention for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, with ward, local government, and state congresses expected to take place ahead of the exercise.
