One killed, nine injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident

A road crash at New Garage, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, has claimed the life of one person and left nine others injured.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Education Officer, Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos.

According to her, the accident happened around 6:55 a.m. and involved a white Iveco truck (MEK 34 XC) and a white Toyota commercial bus (ENU 814 XJ).

“Sadly, one male passenger died, while nine others—eight men and one woman—sustained various injuries. None of the passengers came out unhurt,” Jayeola said.

She added that FRSC officials arrived promptly at the scene, taking the injured to the Emergency Centre in Ojota and Gbagada General Hospital, while the deceased was taken to the Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo. The wreckage was quickly cleared to ease traffic flow.

The vehicles involved are now in police custody as investigations continue. Preliminary findings, Jayeola noted, suggest that speeding and road obstruction caused the accident.

The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also cautioned motorists to avoid speeding, especially during the ember months, stressing that patience and focus behind the wheel save lives.

Hamzat further assured the public of FRSC’s continued efforts to ensure safer highways and protect lives and property Nationwide.
