Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced that Badagry and Epe will host new Agro-Food Hubs as part of Lagos State’s plan to strengthen food security and expand its modern food distribution network.
The governor made this known on Wednesday, August 22, 2025, during an inspection of the almost completed Agro-Food Hub in Abijo, Sangotedo (Eti-Osa), which is over 90 percent ready. The Abijo facility, being developed by Origin Tech Group, covers 23,000 square metres and is designed with storage facilities, trading floors, and large parking spaces to ensure better access to fresh produce and reduce post-harvest losses across the state.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the Badagry hub will be linked with others already planned for Agege, Lagos Island, Oregun, Ikorodu, and Epe, all connected to the central logistics hub at Ketu-Ereyun. According to him, this network will serve as the backbone of Lagos’s food distribution system, giving farmers and traders in Badagry and other areas the opportunity to reach wider markets with ease.
The governor added that the development is part of the N500 billion Produce for Lagos initiative, which is at the heart of the state’s food sovereignty agenda, and aligns with the Lagos Agricultural Roadmap (2021). Both programmes aim to boost agricultural production, improve storage capacity, and build a sustainable food distribution system.
Sanwo-Olu, who was joined on the inspection by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and Secretary to the State Government, Barrister ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, stressed that the new hubs in Badagry and Epe will be critical in ensuring food becomes more available, affordable, and accessible to residents across Lagos.
