Badagry's Prince, Babajide Akran Welcomes Gov. Sanwo-Olu with Pride, Urges Greater Investment in Infrastructure, Development

The ancient coastal town of Badagry came alive today with excitement and hope as Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, arrived for the commissioning of key road projects undertaken by the Lagos State Government.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Prince Babajide Akran, a respected son of the soil, extended a warm and dignified welcome to the visiting dignitaries on behalf of the entire Badagry Federation, which includes Badagry Local Government, Badagry West LCDA, and Olorunda LCDA.

“Your presence in our land fills us with immense pride,” Akran said, noting that the newly completed roads are not just concrete paths but “lifelines” that will boost connectivity, stimulate commerce, and unlock new opportunities across the region.

According to him, the people of Badagry deeply appreciate the Lagos State Government’s continued commitment to improving lives and developing once-neglected communities. “Your vision and leadership have not gone unnoticed,” he said, addressing the governor directly.

But beyond the fanfare and festivities, Prince Akran made a compelling call to action — urging his fellow Badagrians not to see the occasion as mere celebration, but as an opportunity to engage constructively with the state’s leadership.

He appealed to traditional rulers, political leaders, youth groups, traders, and artisans to come together and speak with one voice in presenting clear, forward-thinking demands that reflect the town’s pressing needs. These include better schools, improved healthcare systems, consistent electricity, access to clean water, and business support for small-scale entrepreneurs and artisans.

The Prince also called attention to delayed projects with major potential, such as the Badagry Chalet and the proposed stadium — both of which, he said, could significantly boost tourism and youth development if completed.

“We must ask the right questions and make our voices count,” he wrote. “Let our requests be bold yet constructive, reflecting the genuine aspirations of every son and daughter of Badagry.”

He concluded with a passionate reminder of Badagry’s enduring strength, heritage, and potential: “Ours is a land of rich culture, historic significance, and untapped promise. With unity and vision, we can make Badagry a shining example of inclusive growth and sustainable development in Lagos State.”

The visit of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team marks yet another milestone in the journey of Badagry toward modernization, but for many residents, it is also a crucial moment to advocate for more — and to ensure that the progress reaches every corner of this storied region.
