Badagry Social Critic Babajide Akran Outlines High Expectations for Hunpe-led BLG

A prominent social commentator and native of Badagry, Prince Babajide Akran, has expressed optimism about the leadership of Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, the newly sworn-in Chairman of Badagry Local Government, and his Vice Chairman, Adeyemi Akeem, urging them to deliver a transformative and inclusive administration.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Akran described himself as “a concerned son of the soil” with great expectations for the new council leadership. He called for an administration that places priority on impactful infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation of inner roads, expansion of rural electrification, and provision of clean water across all quarters of Badagry town.

“These enhancements will lay a strong foundation for community growth and well-being,” he wrote.

Highlighting Badagry’s historical and cultural prominence, Akran urged the local government to leverage the town’s tourism potential through structured festivals, educational outreach, and visitor-friendly initiatives. According to him, such measures would not only boost local pride but also create economic opportunities for residents.

On governance, Akran stressed the importance of transparency and accountability, recommending that the administration present a clear and inclusive “Budget of Transitional Economy” that prioritizes education, healthcare, and local economic development.

Recalling previous council achievements, such as bursary awards for students and skill acquisition programs, he encouraged the Hunpe administration to scale up vocational training, provide entrepreneurship grants, and enhance educational support. He also advocated for targeted empowerment of women through microfinance schemes and improved market access.

The social critic called for the continuation of regular town hall meetings and stakeholder engagement sessions to ensure residents’ voices are heard. He further appealed for initiatives that enhance the welfare of traditional rulers, acknowledging their vital role in preserving Badagry’s cultural heritage.

“With increased public funds available due to policies like the fuel subsidy removal, I encourage the administration to invest strategically in local economic growth,” Akran stated, emphasizing the need to channel resources into scholarships, school infrastructure, and other youth-focused initiatives.

Expressing confidence in the leadership of Hunpe and Akeem, Akran concluded that a collaborative, visionary approach could make Badagry “a thriving, inclusive, and vibrant community for all.”
