Funke Adepoju as DG of ASCON Badagry

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs. Funke Adepoju as the substantive Director-General of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), located in Topo, Badagry. The appointment, which takes immediate effect, marks a significant leadership transition for the prestigious federal training institution.

Mrs. Adepoju steps into the role following the recent retirement of the former DG, Mrs. Cecilia Umaru Gayya. In the interim, Mr. B.O. Eniaiyejuni served as Acting Director-General. With this new appointment, the mantle of leadership now rests on Adepoju, who brings with her a rich background in public sector strategy and water regulation.

Prior to her appointment, Adepoju was the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission. Widely recognized as a thought leader in urban water management and sustainable development, she is known for championing regulatory reforms and infrastructure improvements across Lagos State.

In her public profile, Adepoju reflects on her career mission: “I have committed my career to improving Lagos’ infrastructure and regulatory frameworks. My expertise includes creative urban water solutions, sustainable practices, and public health improvements through water availability and quality.”

A seasoned strategist, Adepoju has led major policy reforms that improved efficiency and accountability in governmental water services. Her efforts have not only supported the development of infrastructure in Lagos but also advanced the state’s progress toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on clean water and sanitation.

She has been the recipient of multiple awards and commendations, including recognition from the Governor of Lagos State, for her outstanding contributions to the water sector. Passionate about capacity building, Adepoju has also facilitated numerous training programmes to enhance the technical skills of professionals in the water and sanitation industry.

Her appointment to lead ASCON—a premier institution tasked with training senior public service personnel—has been met with optimism, with many expecting her to bring the same visionary leadership and reformist spirit that has defined her career so far.

With the administrative hub of ASCON situated in the historic town of Badagry, stakeholders are hopeful that the institution will experience renewed momentum under her watch, aligning closely with national priorities for public sector efficiency and excellence.

This appointment underscores President Tinubu’s continued focus on placing experienced professionals in key federal roles as part of his administration’s broader public service reform agenda.
