Lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu, has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and other security agencies to fully comply with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to reduce the number of checkpoints along the Seme-Badagry Expressway.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page early Monday morning, Hon. Bonu expressed concern over what he described as continued hardship faced by commuters due to multiple security checkpoints along the vital border highway. He reminded the police and other security outfits of the presidential fiat and urged immediate action to ease the suffering of road users.

"Following President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's recent directive to reduce roadblocks on the Badagry Expressway, we urge immediate implementation to alleviate the suffering of commuters," he wrote. "Compliance with this directive is crucial for improving traffic flow and reducing unnecessary harassment."
President Tinubu had recently issued a directive aimed at curbing the proliferation of roadblocks along key border routes across the country, with a special focus on the Seme-Badagry axis — a major commercial corridor linking Nigeria with neighboring West African countries. The directive also came with the establishment of a presidential task force charged with ensuring enforcement.
Despite the president's order, Hon. Bonu noted that there has been minimal change on the ground, as many checkpoints reportedly remain operational, causing traffic congestion and discomfort for thousands of travelers and traders who ply the route daily.
"Continued disregard for the President's instruction will likely exacerbate the hardship faced by daily commuters," Bonu warned. "We trust that the security agencies will adhere to the directive and prioritize the welfare of citizens."
The lawmaker's comments have since sparked renewed public interest in the long-standing complaints about the numerous roadblocks on the Seme-Badagry Expressway, which many residents and transporters have described as excessive and exploitative.
Stakeholders now look to the police leadership and the newly inaugurated task force to act decisively and restore sanity to one of Nigeria’s busiest border highways.
