The Tourism Vanguard for Tinubu (TVT) Movement has conferred the prestigious title of National Patron on Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku, widely known as Baba Eto, in recognition of his immense contributions to religious tourism and his long-standing advocacy for good governance in Nigeria.

The honour was bestowed on the revered cleric by members of the National Central Working Council of the Movement at a ceremony that also doubled as a rallying point for renewed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Members of the council described Baba Eto as a respected national figure whose influence transcends religion and politics, noting that his role in promoting religious tourism and social development has earned him widespread admiration across the country.

TVT, a political and socio-economic movement established to mobilise grassroots support for President Tinubu’s second term bid, used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the area of tourism development.

Speaking during the event, the National Coordinator and Convener of the Movement, Hon. Apata Samson Nunayon, said the conferment of the title was a recognition of Baba Eto’s lifetime of service and impact.

“This honour is a recognition of a lifetime of service, dedication and impact. Baba Eto’s contributions to religious tourism and his consistent advocacy for good governance align perfectly with our vision. As a Movement, we remain committed to mobilising nationwide support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 while advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in unlocking the vast potential of Nigeria’s tourism industry,” he said.

Nunayon added that the Movement sees tourism as one of the major sectors capable of driving economic growth, creating jobs and boosting national development if properly harnessed.

Also speaking, the National Deputy Coordinator of TVT, Dr. Adeyinka Wulemat Olarinmoye, stressed the need for unity among stakeholders within the Movement and the wider tourism industry.

According to him, the strength of the Movement lies in its ability to work together with a common purpose.

“The strength of this Movement lies in our ability to come together and speak with one voice. As stakeholders in the tourism sector, we must remain united in our commitment to the growth and development of the industry. By aligning our efforts with the ongoing transformation agenda of Mr. President, we can collectively unlock the vast potential of tourism as a key driver of economic prosperity and national development,” he stated.

In his acceptance speech, Baba Eto expressed appreciation to the Movement for the honour and pledged his continued support for its objectives.

“I am deeply honoured by this recognition and the confidence reposed in me by the TVT Movement. I assure you of my unwavering commitment to providing the necessary political will and support required to achieve our collective vision for the growth and development of the tourism industry in Nigeria. Together, we will continue to mobilise and strengthen our support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 in order to sustain and build on the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

The event also witnessed renewed commitments from members of the Movement, who vowed to intensify mobilisation efforts across the country in support of President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election project.

Participants at the ceremony said the conferment of the National Patron title on Baba Eto is expected to strengthen the Movement’s national outreach and provide it with the moral authority and strategic guidance needed to expand its activities.

Political observers believe the development reflects the growing relationship between faith, tourism and politics in Nigeria, especially as different groups continue to seek ways of supporting the country’s development agenda.

They noted that with Baba Eto now serving as National Patron, the Tourism Vanguard for Tinubu Movement may be better positioned to deepen support for President Tinubu while pushing for stronger policies and investments in the tourism sector.
