Troops, NDLEA Arrest Two Fake Policemen With Truckloads of Cannabis - Photos

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two men posing as police officers while transporting truckloads of cannabis in Taraba State.

The suspects were intercepted at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area following credible intelligence. They were dressed in mobile police uniforms and caught driving two Toyota Hilux vehicles packed with substances suspected to be cannabis sativa.

According to a statement by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, preliminary investigations confirmed that neither of the suspects is a serving police officer. One of them, identified as 71-year-old Monday George, is a dismissed Police ASP, while the other is 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche.

The vehicles, which had been loaded with cannabis in Akure, Ondo State, were reportedly headed towards Adamawa before they were intercepted. While one Hilux was seized with the suspects onboard, the occupants of the second vehicle abandoned it and fled on sighting the troops.

A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered from the two vehicles. Both the suspects and the seized exhibits have since been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.

The operation, part of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Nakowa across Taraba State, is aimed at flushing out criminals, bandits, and drug traffickers.

Commending the troops and NDLEA operatives, Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, praised their synergy and resilience. He assured that the Brigade will not relent in making Taraba unsafe for criminal activities and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
