The National Association of Badagry Students (NABAS-SPC) has officially constituted its Congress Committee, a critical organ of the Association, ahead of the highly anticipated Congress scheduled for October 11, 2025, at Dokoh Town Hall, Ajara, Badagry, Lagos State. The session is billed to commence at 11:00 a.m.
In a memorandum signed by the Speaker of NABAS-SPC, Rt. Hon. Senemede Abel Opeyemi, the Association announced the appointment of new officers to steer the affairs of the Congress. According to the statement, Ajisegiri Sedomo D. has been appointed Chairman of Congress, while Pot-Balogun Semande will serve as Secretary. Other members of the Committee include Kotin Sedonde and Kotin Emmanuel, both appointed as members.
“These appointments are in line with the provisions of the NABAS Constitution and reflect our commitment to effective coordination, transparency, and service to the student body,” the Speaker noted.
The Congress Committee, regarded as the supreme decision-making body of the Association, has been vested with wide-ranging powers and responsibilities. These include:
Supreme Decision-Making: Acting as the final authority on all matters affecting the Association.
Policy Resolutions: Debating and passing resolutions on critical issues, including matters referred by the Senate Executive Council (SEC) or Students’ Parliamentary Council (SPC).
Oversight and Accountability: Reviewing, adopting, or rejecting resolutions to ensure transparent governance.
Disciplinary Powers: Dissolving the SEC or SPC when necessary to protect the integrity of the Association.
Confidence Motions: Passing votes of confidence or no-confidence on any officer of the SEC or SPC.
Electoral Functions: Constituting an Electoral Committee to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections within NABAS.
By these constitutional provisions, the NABAS Congress is seen as the guardian of democracy within the Association, safeguarding accountability, fair representation, and the active participation of all members.
With the new leadership in place, expectations are high among members and stakeholders that the October 11 Congress will not only strengthen the democratic foundation of NABAS but also set the tone for a more accountable and inclusive student representation.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Senemede Abel Opeyemi, expressed confidence in the newly appointed officers, charging them to uphold the values of NABAS-SPC and serve with dedication.
“The success of this Congress will define the future of our Association. We trust the committee to deliver with integrity and diligence,” he affirmed.
