In a dramatic twist of fate, suspected kidnappers who had just collected ransom money narrowly escaped arrest on Monday morning after being involved in a ghastly motor accident at Angwan Mayo, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Eyewitnesses said the criminals, who were attempting to flee with their loot, crashed their Peugeot 406 vehicle while speeding away from the scene. The accident reportedly left their car mangled, forcing them to abandon the ransom money and a cache of firearms as they fled into nearby bushes.
Security operatives, including personnel of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force, immediately arrived at the scene and secured the area. Their prompt response prevented the suspects from regrouping or retrieving the abandoned weapons and cash.
A prominent politician and governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State, Mr. Akyala Ishaku, who witnessed the incident, took to his social media handle to recount what transpired.
“On our way to work this morning, kidnappers collected ransom and had accident at Angwan Mayo around Kokona with their Peugeot 406 loaded with guns. Unfortunately, they escaped leaving money and guns in their car. Thanks to Nigeria Army and Nigeria Police for prompt response,” he wrote.
Residents of Kokona have commended the swift intervention of security agencies, noting that their rapid deployment averted what could have become a prolonged security threat in the area.
As of press time, authorities have yet to confirm whether any of the fleeing suspects have been apprehended or to provide details about the victims of the abduction. Investigations are ongoing.
