New BLG Chairman Hunpe Promises Quick Fix of Rotting Viral Lagos PHC After Badagry Today’s Report

The newly sworn-in Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has promised to immediately begin the renovation of the badly decayed Pota Primary Health Centre, following a shocking report by Badagry Today that went viral a couple of week ago.

According to Badagry Online Radio, Hon. Hunpe gave this assurance on Monday during an on-the-spot inspection of the Pota PHC, a facility that recently became the centre of public outrage after it was exposed as being overrun by snakes and left in a state of total collapse.

Just after holding his first official meeting with the management staff of the council, the Chairman led top council officials on a tour of abandoned and poorly maintained projects across Badagry — with the Pota health centre being a major stop.

The visit followed Badagry Today’s exclusive investigation, which revealed the shocking condition of the health centre. According to the report, concerned residents had raised the alarm after killing several snakes within the hospital premises and shared disturbing photos with the media. A visit by Badagry Today confirmed the fears — the PHC was nothing short of a disaster zone.

What used to be a government health facility is now a crumbling shell of a building — unsafe, unsanitary, and unfit for use. Nurses at the facility, who spoke anonymously, said more than 20 snakes have been killed inside the building in recent months. The reptiles have reportedly been seen in every part of the centre — from the reception and labour room to the doctor's office, toilets, and even the lab.

“This place is a death trap. No light, no security. Most of us don’t even do night duty anymore. Who wants to get bitten by a snake at work?” one of the nurses said.

The chairman’s prompt visit drew praise from residents on social media, many of whom applauded his swift action and described it as a positive sign that the new administration is ready to listen to the people and act.

“This is what we want — a chairman who responds to our cries and doesn’t wait for things to get worse,” one resident wrote.

During the inspection, Hon. Hunpe reassured the community that his administration would give the health centre urgent attention, stressing that quality healthcare is one of his top priorities.

He was joined on the visit by the Vice Chairman, Council Manager, Treasurer, Administrative Officer, Chief of Staff, Personal Secretary, and other key officials — a move that signaled unity and seriousness in tackling pressing grassroots issues.

Hon. Hunpe’s first major action as Chairman sends a strong message: the days of neglect may be numbered, and the people of Badagry can expect a more responsive and responsible local government going forward.
