A major political faction within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), The Mandate Group (TMG) in Kosofe Local Government Area, has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, seeking his urgent intervention in what it describes as an unfair distribution of council executive positions.
In the letter signed by Chief Tunde Temionu, leader of TMG in Kosofe, the group appealed to the President to use his revered influence as both a statesman and political father of Lagos to correct what it calls a “lopsided sharing” of key positions in the council.
According to TMG, the current situation has left their members completely sidelined. All elected officials — the council chairman, vice chairman, all seven councillors, and political appointees — reportedly belong to the rival Justice Forum (JF) faction of the APC, despite a prior agreement to share positions between the two groups for the sake of peace and balance.
“Our appeal is simple,” the letter reads. “Either the original agreement stands — where TMG was to produce councillors for Wards A, C, F, and G, while Wards B, D, and E go to the Justice Forum — or all upcoming supervisory appointments should be given to TMG as compensation.”
The group accused JF of breaching the gentleman’s agreement by fielding candidates in all seven wards, even after TMG had deliberately withdrawn from contesting in JF’s agreed-upon strongholds, in the spirit of internal cooperation.
TMG further alleged that JF’s actions were facilitated by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), which they claim accepted forms only from JF-backed candidates. Attempts to address the matter internally — through factional meetings and intervention by a so-called reconciliation committee — reportedly failed to yield results.
“What we found troubling,” the letter continued, “was that the committee chairman tried to convince us that the entire arrangement was sanctioned by President Tinubu himself. That raised red flags for us, because we know our leader would never endorse such one-sidedness.”
Chief Temionu didn’t mince words, describing JF’s total dominance as “grandmaster absolutism” and warning that the situation would have triggered chaos if not for TMG’s maturity and restraint.
He stressed that TMG isn’t asking for special treatment, but fairness.
“If we had lost on a level playing field, we would have no complaints. But when we’re schemed out through backdoor tactics, it becomes necessary to seek redress,” he wrote.
The group warned that continued marginalization could dampen morale among loyal APC members and deepen internal divisions, especially with the 2027 elections on the horizon.
“Anything to the contrary is sabotage,” the letter warned, adding that their message was not meant to embarrass the party but to preserve unity and ensure mutual respect.
Wrapping up their appeal, TMG described President Tinubu as “Kosofe’s political father,” expressing confidence that he would step in to correct the imbalance — just as he had in past internal disputes.
“We believe your fatherly intervention will inspire unity and motivate Kosofe APC members to work even harder,” the group concluded.
