The Delta State Police Command has revealed that an 11-year-old girl recently arrested at the Ekpan Police Division was being used to traffic hard drugs.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, made this known on Friday through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. His update came after widespread criticism on social media over the child’s arrest and detention.
Earlier, a concerned Nigerian woman known as Kat, who tweets as #Living_JustCus, had claimed that she paid N500,000 to secure the girl’s release. According to her, the young girl was arrested alongside some adults in a tricycle where hard drugs were found. She alleged that the child was held without any contact with her family and wasn’t allowed to speak to anyone before the money was collected as bail.

They arrested this girl along with the boys & the keke man
Kept her in custody since 4pm & didn’t even bother trying to contact her parents
We went to drop a statement in the station & found them there
Reacting to these claims, the police initially called on the woman to provide proof of the incident. However, in a follow-up update on Friday, SP Edafe confirmed that the girl was indeed arrested and had confessed during interrogation.
According to Edafe, the 11-year-old explained that she was being used by a woman she called her "mummy" to carry hard drugs, with the belief that her young age would prevent suspicion from law enforcement.
He said, “A woman whom the girl identified as her mummy sent her to move drugs, thinking that since she was just a child, she wouldn’t be searched. Shockingly, the little girl was able to identify the drugs she was carrying – Molly, CSC codeine, and black diamond.”
Edafe added that the girl told the police she had only started helping the woman the previous week. “But what really shocked me,” he said, “was how this child, at just 11 years old, already knows the names of these dangerous substances.”
He insisted the confession was on video and challenged anyone who doubted the police account to come forward with evidence. “If I’m lying, let them prove me wrong. The embarrassing video may even be released for the public to see,” he added.
As of the time of this report, the police had not confirmed whether the woman allegedly using the child for drug trafficking had been arrested.
