A motorist, Isiaka Afolabi, has been arraigned before the Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos following a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy.
The incident occurred on April 22 around 3:30 p.m. in the Badagry area, according to police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo. Afolabi was reportedly driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with the registration number AGL 122 BJ when he allegedly struck the teenager while driving recklessly.
Inspector Ekpo told the court that Afolabi was operating the vehicle in a dangerous manner on a public highway, showing a clear disregard for the safety of others.
The charge brought against him falls under Sections 27 and 19 of the Road Traffic Act, Cap 124, Laws of Lagos State, which cover offences related to dangerous driving and manslaughter.
Afolabi pleaded not guilty during his arraignment.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted him bail set at ₦1 million, with two sureties required to provide the same amount. The court specified that the sureties must reside within its jurisdiction and present proof of gainful employment.
The case has been adjourned until July 9 for further hearing.
