Tinubu to Commission World's Largest Cotton Factory with 250,000 Daily Employment Capacity in Ogun

President Bola Tinubu is set to commission what will become the world’s largest cotton and polyester processing factory in Ogun State—a monumental project expected to create employment for up to 250,000 people daily.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known while receiving the former Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, alongside members of the Iperu Development Association at his office in Abeokuta. According to the governor, the groundbreaking ceremony will take place within the next 30 to 45 days at the Special Agro-Processing Zone near the Gateway International Airport, Iperu/Ilisan axis.

The factory is a flagship project under the “Renewed Hope Cotton Resurgent Initiative”, a key component of President Tinubu’s economic revival agenda. Sited on an expansive 400-hectare plot, the facility is expected to be a game-changer—not just for Ogun State, but for the textile industry globally.

“This will be the biggest cotton and polyester processing factory anywhere in the world,” Governor Abiodun stated. “It will employ a quarter of a million people each day. The economic impact of such a venture will be unprecedented, touching Iperu, Remoland, Ijebu land, and the entire Ogun State.”

Governor Abiodun explained that the location was carefully chosen by the project's promoters due to its strategic advantages: proximity to the newly built airport, easy access to raw materials, and a direct route to consumer markets.

“Clearing has already begun on the 400-hectare site, which will resemble a new industrial town by the time it’s fully developed,” he added. “The supporting infrastructure and economic activities this will attract are beyond what anyone can imagine.”

In a related development, the Nigerian Air Force has also signaled its intention to establish a base in Iperu, further boosting security around the airport and neighboring communities, and underlining the strategic importance of the area in Nigeria’s economic and security architecture.

With this mega project on the horizon, Ogun State continues to solidify its status as a critical hub for industrialization and innovation under Nigeria’s Renewed Hope agenda.
