Lagos APC LG Primaries: Four APC Chairmanship Candidates Emerge by Consensus

Chairmanship candidates for four Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State have emerged through consensus during the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government primaries, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The consensus candidates affirmed by delegates are Mr. Isa Jubril for Iba LCDA, Mrs. Motunrayo Gbadebo for Ijede LCDA, Mr. Rasaq Kasali for Lekki LCDA, and Mr. Azeez Kareem for Otto Awori LCDA.

The affirmation process took place at the APC secretariat in Ikeja, where voting was still in progress for other council areas at the time of filing this report.

Addressing delegates before voting commenced, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, urged party members to maintain order and conduct themselves peacefully, stressing the national significance of the exercise.

“We take this exercise very seriously. Our president, who is also our leader and father, is monitoring us from Abuja,” Hamzat stated. “This is his state, and he cares deeply about the grassroots. That’s why all of us must be patient.”

He also noted the presence of officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to observe proceedings, adding, “This is a peaceful process. Let us do it peacefully, quickly, and in an orderly manner. In Lagos, the APC remains strong—the opposition's umbrella is torn. Let us not play into their hands.”

Earlier, Chairman of the Lagos APC Electoral Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, outlined the voting procedure, explaining that delegates from LGAs with consensus arrangements would affirm their candidates first before moving on to areas with contested positions.

“Some local governments have concluded their processes and agreed on consensus candidates. We’ll take those first so they can affirm and leave the venue,” Ogala said.

He also reminded aspirants that they were free to withdraw if they wished and urged delegates to depart the venue after voting to ease congestion.
