A man described by authorities as a notorious kidnapper and ritualist has been arrested while attempting to flee Nigeria through the Seme border in Badagry.
Operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos State Command, apprehended the suspect, identified as Obi Levi Obieze — also known as Levi Obu Onyeka — on Wednesday as he tried to slip across the border into Benin Republic on a commercial motorcycle.
The arrest followed weeks of intense manhunt after Obieze was linked to a series of kidnappings and ritual killings, particularly in Enugu State. Law enforcement agencies had placed him on a nationwide watchlist amid growing public concern over his alleged activities.
According to sources within the NIS, the suspect attempted to disguise himself as an ordinary traveler, blending in with locals who frequently use motorcycles to cross the busy border corridor. But alert officers recognized him and swiftly moved in to make the arrest without resistance.
Obieze, described by some as a "billionaire native doctor," has reportedly used his wealth and influence to evade capture for weeks. His arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle criminal networks operating across state lines.
On Thursday, the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service formally handed over the suspect to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
Badagry Today will continue to monitor developments on this story.
