Tinubu Directs Emergency Repairs on Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Others

In a move aimed at safeguarding critical national infrastructure and boosting economic growth, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered emergency repairs on major highways and bridges across the country, including the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Badagry Today understands

The directive, announced via the official handle of the Government of Nigeria (@NigeriaGov) six days ago, is part of efforts to prevent further collapse of key roads and enhance safety for commuters. The statement highlighted specific projects such as the Third Mainland Bridge restrictions, Kano-Maiduguri Highway, Kebbe Bridge in Sokoto, Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Benin-Asaba Road, and the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

“This strategic move advances the #RenewedHopeAgenda by boosting infrastructure resilience and economic growth across Nigeria,” the government noted.

For residents of Badagry and adjoining communities, this development brings renewed hope amid longstanding concerns over the deplorable state of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. While sections of the road from Okokomaiko to Agbara are still undergoing reconstruction—particularly around the Agbara axis leading up to Odofa Bus Stop bridge before Ibiye, as well as the ongoing rail project at Okokomaiko—several portions remain in dire condition.

Notably, the stretch from Badagry Roundabout to the Seme border has continued to deteriorate, becoming a nightmare for motorists, traders, and international travelers who rely on the route as a major gateway between Nigeria and the West African subregion.

Stakeholders in Badagry have consistently called for urgent intervention, describing the road as central to trade, tourism, and socio-economic development in the area. President Tinubu’s directive is now seen as a critical step that, if effectively implemented, could ease the hardship faced by thousands of road users daily.

Residents and commuters await the swift mobilization of contractors to site, hopeful that the emergency repairs will not only provide temporary relief but also complement the larger reconstruction and rail project already underway.

With the Lagos-Badagry Expressway serving as an international corridor linking Nigeria to Benin Republic, Ghana, and other ECOWAS countries, its rehabilitation is widely expected to stimulate commerce, improve cross-border movement, and reinforce the administration’s promise of a renewed hope for Nigerians.
