A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday morning along People’s Club/Limca Road, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area, when a black Lexus Jeep rammed into two tricycles, leaving one person dead and several others critically injured.
According to Punch, the incident, which happened around 6:30 a.m., caused panic in the area as eyewitnesses alleged that the vehicle was being driven in a convoy by suspected security operatives. According to residents, the occupants of the tricycles sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, with some said to be on critical watch.
An eyewitness, who preferred not to be named, claimed that about four men, suspected to be DSS operatives, were inside the Jeep. “They were speeding when they hit the tricycles. On realizing the gravity of the accident and seeing one person dead, they abandoned the vehicle and fled with their service rifles to avoid a mob attack,” the source recounted.
The abandoned Lexus Jeep remained at the scene as sympathizers gathered, while the injured victims received urgent medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives attached to Isiowulu Division responded swiftly, secured the accident scene, evacuated the victims, and recovered the abandoned vehicle.
Ikenga clarified that preliminary investigations have revealed that the Lexus Jeep does not belong to any security agency, contrary to speculation.
“The Anambra State Police Command has commenced investigation into a fatal accident that occurred early Saturday at People’s Club/Limca Road, Obosi, involving a Lexus Jeep and two tricycles. The driver of the Jeep rammed into the tricycles, killing one person and leaving others injured. The vehicle was later abandoned by its occupants,” Ikenga stated.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter. The Commissioner also urged residents of the community to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts are ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
