In the often noisy arena of politics, where performance is too easily measured by transient rankings and partisan commentaries, it is important to step back and reflect on the tangible realities that touch the lives of the people. Hon. Engr. Setonji David, the lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly and current Deputy Chief Whip, is one leader whose impact cannot be reduced to statistics or arbitrary ratings.
Over the years, Setonji David has remained deeply committed to the progress and development of Badagry. His representation has gone beyond rhetoric and has been backed by visible projects that have improved daily life in our communities. From road rehabilitation—grading, reconstruction, and opening up of new routes—to electrification projects that brought light to underserved areas, his interventions have touched the grassroots in practical ways.
Equally commendable is his focus on education and youth empowerment. At a time when many young people struggle with access to opportunities, Setonji has consistently provided GCE and JAMB forms to students across the constituency. This gesture, year after year, ensures that more of our sons and daughters have the chance to pursue their academic dreams, thereby laying the foundation for a brighter future. Add to this his involvement in health initiatives and community support programmes, and the picture becomes clear: his service is people-centered, deliberate, and sustained.
Of course, in a constituency as vast and diverse as Badagry, no single leader can satisfy every demand at once. Some groups may feel their requests have not been met at particular moments. But governance is not a one-off transaction; it is a delicate act of balancing limited resources against numerous competing needs. What matters is the fairness of distribution and the willingness to engage—which Setonji has consistently demonstrated through his open-door policy and accessibility to individuals, groups, and associations.
Rather than condemn or unfairly criticize, now is the time for constructive dialogue, unity, and collaboration. The progress of Badagry is not the task of one man alone, but a shared responsibility between leaders and the people. Hon. Setonji David’s track record already speaks volumes, and his steadfastness in service proves his loyalty to the constituency he represents.
As a community leader, I say without hesitation that Badagry Constituency 2 has in him a representative who is not only dedicated but also forward-looking. The choice before us is whether to allow distractions to derail progress or to join hands in achieving greater milestones for our dear constituency.
