Barely two weeks after taking her oath of office, Oluwakemi Rufai, the only female councillor in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, has died.
Rufai, who represented Ward C1, reportedly succumbed to a brief illness, plunging the local political community into mourning.
Her passing was confirmed on Wednesday by the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Sesan Olowa, and the Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rasaki Kasali.
In separate condolence messages, the council leaders described Rufai’s death as a devastating loss, noting her unwavering commitment to public service, her active role in the All Progressives Congress (APC), and her contributions to grassroots development.
According to official statements, medical personnel pronounced Rufai dead on Tuesday. Her sudden demise has been described as a major blow to both councils, which have been left grieving the loss of a promising political figure.
Funeral arrangements and tributes from colleagues, party members, and residents are expected to be announced in the coming days.
