The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) has suspended the Chairman of the Badagry Divisional Football Association (BDFA), Dr. Osondu Martins Ibegbu, along with the entire BDFA board, over allegations of gross misconduct, fraud, extortion, impersonation, sexual harassment, and misuse of office.
The decision, announced by LSFA Chairman, Hajji Gafar Olawale Liameed, followed what the association described as a painstaking review of weighty documentary evidence that “eroded the credibility and integrity” of the football body in Lagos and Nigeria at large.
In a statement signed by LSFA Secretary, Mrs. Vera Hycient-Okechukwu, the association disclosed that both Dr. Ibegbu and his board were formally invited for a fair hearing on August 11, 2025, but two board members failed to attend the fact-finding meeting.
Citing Article 14 of the LSFA Statutes, which empowers the State Executive Committee to suspend or dismiss any member or body that violates FIFA, CAF, WAFU, NFF, or LSFA directives, the association said the decision was taken in line with established procedures.
“The Lagos State Football Association hereby, with immediate effect, suspends the Chairman, Badagry Divisional Football Association, Dr. Osondu Martins, from all football-related matters in Lagos for gross misconduct, fraud, extortion, impersonation, sexual harassment, and misuse of office,” the statement read.
The LSFA also held the entire BDFA board accountable for failing to meet their obligations in addressing the misconduct allegations against their chairman, placing them on immediate suspension from all football activities in Lagos.
The suspended officials are barred from carrying out any work duties or accessing the BDFA Secretariat unless authorised by an appointed football administrator. The matter has been referred to the LSFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee for further investigation, with all suspended parties required to cooperate fully.
The association added that its decision will be referred to the LSFA Congress for ratification. In the meantime, it has appointed Osahon Emokpae as the interim football administrator for the BDFA, to be assisted by Abel Sohe and Taiwo Kool.
