Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Meranda, has lauded Nigerian youths for their resilience, innovation, and commitment to building a better future, describing them as “the true architects of a sustainable tomorrow.”
In an open letter marking International Youth Day 2025, themed “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond”, Meranda celebrated the “vibrant energy” of young people across Lagos and Nigeria who, she said, are driving transformation from the grassroots to the global stage.
“From our streets to our schools, from community-led projects to global advocacy, we prove every day that meaningful change begins at the grassroots,” she wrote, stressing that the creativity and courage of young Nigerians are shaping not just Lagos, but the world.
Meranda reaffirmed her personal commitment to championing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and urged youths to take ownership of their communities by acting locally while thinking globally.
“We are not just the leaders of tomorrow; we are the changemakers of today,” she declared, rallying young people to keep building inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable communities “beyond 2030, beyond boundaries, and beyond limits.”
She concluded with a call for unity, urging youths to move forward “side by side” in pursuit of a more equitable and thriving future.
International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12, celebrates the role of young people as essential partners in change and raises awareness of challenges facing the world’s youth.
