"APC’s ‘Failure’ Made You Commissioner, Governor, and Minister" – Lagos APC Fires Back at Aregbesola

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a blistering rebuttal to recent remarks by former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, describing his public denunciation of the party as “a betrayal of trust” and “political opportunism at its peak.”

Aregbesola, speaking at an African Democratic Congress (ADC) membership drive in Kosofe Local Government Area, had accused the APC—alongside other major political parties—of failing Nigerians, while drumming support for the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.

But in a sharply worded statement signed by its spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC lambasted the former Osun State Governor, reminding him that it was the same “allegedly failed” party that propelled him from Lagos State Commissioner to two-term governor and eventually a federal minister.

“If APC has failed, then Aregbesola must take responsibility for his own role in governance,” the statement read. “You cannot rewrite history to wash your hands clean after benefiting from the goodwill and political platform of the APC for over two decades.”

APC Calls ADC’s ‘New Deal’ Hollow

The ruling party dismissed the ADC’s promise of a “new deal” as recycled rhetoric wrapped in music and fanfare, arguing that Nigerians are now more discerning and would not “entrust the nation’s future to a party with no proven track record, ideology, or cohesive leadership.”

Highlighting Lagos as a model of progressive governance, the APC credited its administrations with strides in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and technology-driven reforms. “No amount of political grandstanding can erase this reality,” the statement added.

Without mincing words, the Lagos APC accused Aregbesola of lacking political gratitude and warned that “politics without loyalty and integrity is a dangerous path that leads to irrelevance.” The party maintained that it is unshaken by “theatrics or sudden political conversions,” vowing to stay united and focused on delivering the dividends of democracy ahead of 2027.

Closing on a cautionary note, the party urged Nigerians to be wary of politicians who only jump ship when personal ambitions are no longer served. “They now pretend to offer solutions to problems they helped create,” the statement declared.

The fiery exchange marks the latest in a series of public spats between high-profile APC veterans and the party machinery, foreshadowing a potentially turbulent road to the 2027 polls.
