The Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) celebrated the graduation of over 700 young people from its Skill Acquisition Programme on Friday, May 2nd. The initiative, in a major push for youth empowerment, spearheaded by the administration of Council Chairman Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde (popularly known as SAMOLA), was facilitated through the Department of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA).

The graduates, trained at the Council’s Skill Acquisition Centre in Ibereko (Ward B), spent months learning practical skills in vocations such as hairdressing, barbing, fashion designing, catering, and more. To help them start their entrepreneurial journeys, each graduate was presented with essential tools — including sewing machines, hairdryers, clippers, gas cylinders, blenders, and cooking sets.

Addressing the media, the Supervisor for WAPA commended the graduates for their dedication and urged them to make the most of their new skills in today’s fast-paced economy. She also praised Chairman Samola for his consistent focus on uplifting women and youth across the council area.

Speaking at the event, a proud Hon. Olatunde thanked the trainers for their hard work and encouraged the graduates to go beyond self-sustenance by creating value in their communities and contributing to the broader development of Olorunda, Lagos State, and Nigeria.

The graduation ceremony took place in the Council’s newly completed ultra-modern multipurpose hall — a symbol of the Samola administration’s continued commitment to infrastructural development. The event was chaired by Mrs. Abimbola Adeola Idowu, Commissioner IV at the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), who praised the Council’s vision and expressed confidence in the graduates’ future success.

It was a day of pride, celebration, and new beginnings — a clear sign that grassroots empowerment is alive and well in Olorunda LCDA.
