One Dead, Two Injured in Car Accident on Lagos-Badagry Expressway

A fatal road accident on Monday along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway has claimed the life of one man, leaving two others injured. The crash occurred at the Iyana Era Bus Stop area of the highway in Lagos State.

According to a statement by Elizabeth Jayeola, Public Education Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Lagos, the accident involved a commercial blue Mack truck (registration number AKD 579 XM) and a private silver Lexus saloon car (registration number LSR 545 JN).

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC suggest the crash was caused by speeding and a loss of control, despite good road conditions at the time. Five adult men were reportedly involved in the incident.

“The violent impact of the crash led to the death of one male adult, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Jayeola said.

Emergency responders from the FRSC arrived at the scene within four minutes of receiving the alert. The injured were quickly taken to Alimosho General Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the deceased, who remained trapped inside the Lexus vehicle, was later recovered when the car was towed to the Ijanikin Police Station by a recovery truck. The Mack truck was also cleared from the road to restore the free flow of traffic.

FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery. He also renewed the Corps’ appeal to motorists to avoid excessive speeding and maintain control while driving.

“Speeding continues to be a leading cause of road crashes. We urge all road users to prioritize safety and be mindful of others on the road,” he said.
