NANS President Apologizes to Seyi Tinubu, Retracts Allegations of ₦100 Million Bribery, Other Claims

The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Isah, has issued a public apology to Mr. Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, retracting explosive bribery and abduction allegations he previously made in a viral video.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page titled “Setting The Records Straight/Public Apology To Seyi Tinubu,” Comrade Isah acknowledged that his claims—including a purported ₦100 million bribe offer and an alleged abduction orchestrated by Mr. Tinubu and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande—were based on misinformation.

“I must state clearly that the ₦100,000,000 bribe allegation was entirely false,” the NANS President wrote. “It was a fabrication fed to me by Ladoja Olusola, who was desperate to unseat me and take over the leadership of NANS through the back door.”

Isah had previously claimed that he was offered the large sum to support President Tinubu and that upon refusal, he was kidnapped, stripped naked, beaten, and coerced into resigning on national television under duress. He also alleged that Seyi Tinubu led a group of thugs to disrupt his inauguration as NANS President.

In his apology, Isah admitted that these claims were not only unsubstantiated but were also driven by fear and manipulation.

“Olusola warned me that Seyi Tinubu could order my killing and get the Inspector General of Police to cover it up. I regret allowing myself to be influenced by such fear tactics,” he wrote. “I have since discovered that Mr. Seyi Tinubu was not even at the venue of my inauguration, contrary to what I was made to believe.”

The apology marks a dramatic U-turn for the student leader, who now says he was misled by internal rivals seeking to undermine his authority and destabilize the student movement from within.

While Mr. Seyi Tinubu has yet to publicly respond to the apology, the statement is already sparking debate across social media and student communities. Some have praised Isah for coming clean, while others have called for a deeper investigation into the events surrounding the initial allegations.

The National Association of Nigerian Students, a powerful voice in national affairs, has seen its leadership rocked by internal conflicts in recent months. This latest episode adds to mounting concerns about the politicization of student leadership and the influence of external actors.

Comrade Atiku Isah concluded his statement by reaffirming his commitment to the ideals of student advocacy and justice, urging Nigerians to forgive his earlier missteps.

“I offer this apology not just to Mr. Seyi Tinubu but to the Nigerian public, who deserve honesty and accountability from their leaders—student leaders included,” he stated.

As reactions continue to pour in, many are now watching to see whether this apology will pave the way for healing within NANS or deepen the cracks already visible in the association’s leadership.
