As the race for the APC Chairmanship in Badagry Local Government intensifies, Hon. Babatunde Adande Hunpe, a leading contender, has completed the final phase of his ward-to-ward consultations, reaffirming his strong grassroots support and deep connection with the party base.
The campaign train made its final stops at Wards A, E, and F, where enthusiastic party members, leaders, and supporters turned out in large numbers to receive Hunpe and his entourage. Each visit was marked by an atmosphere of solidarity, applause, and endorsement of his leadership qualities.
At Ward A, party executives and loyalists lauded Hunpe’s contributions to the development of Badagry, describing his political journey as impactful and visionary. The Campaign Director-General, Hon. Yahaya Olawale Lateef, popularly known as WAY, praised Hunpe as a "golden fish" in Badagry politics whose achievements speak louder than words.
“In politics, you often need to list achievements to introduce someone, but with Hunpe, that’s unnecessary—his legacy is already known. He has facilitated infrastructure, created jobs, empowered the youth, and uplifted communities. Other aspirants are copying our campaign strategy because it is grounded in results,” WAY declared.
At Ward E, Apex Leader of APC in Badagry Local Government, Hon. High Chief Zannu Ogunbiyi, reiterated that Hunpe’s candidacy is the product of a zoning decision made by the party’s Apex Caucus, which allocated the chairmanship slot to Wards F and H.
Reflecting on his own political journey, Ogunbiyi urged aspirants to embrace patience, obedience, and trust in divine timing.
“My elevation from local government secretary under Late Moses Owolabani to Apex Leader was not born of desperation, but of destiny. Yahaya Lateef himself is an example of how life rewards those who follow the path of service and loyalty,” he said.
Former House of Representatives member and Apex Caucus member, Hon. Sejuro Whesu Samuel, further affirmed that Hunpe’s ambition is rooted in broad consultation and unity across party structures.
“Unlike some who wait on external endorsements, Hunpe’s aspiration was forged through deliberate dialogue within the party. We consulted widely and secured cross-ward support in line with the vision of our late leaders, Hon. Sunny Ajose and Hon. Moses Owolabani. With Hunpe, we’re backing competence and experience,” he said.
In his own address, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe expressed heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support he has received across the wards. He credited his political growth to the mentorship and counsel of party elders, and recounted a pivotal moment in his early career.
“When I first considered running for the House of Assembly, I consulted widely. Baba Sunny Ajose encouraged me, but Hon. Dosu Moses (Oshoco) advised I step back due to party consensus. I obeyed, and not long after, he recommended me for appointment as Special Adviser. That moment taught me the value of patience and trust in leadership,” Hunpe recalled.
He also highlighted key contributions, such as his role in upgrading three Baales in Ajara to Aholu status and facilitating the construction of a key bridge linking Ajara-Agelasho to Agbovipe and surrounding communities.
“My experience at various levels of governance has prepared me to lead Badagry forward. This is not about ambition alone—it’s about capacity, vision, and continuity,” he stated.
Ward executives and supporters also shared moving testimonials, citing Hunpe’s track record of empowerment. From securing jobs and educational opportunities to initiating local development projects, Hunpe’s impact continues to resonate widely.
As the APC chairmanship primaries draw near, the resounding message from the grassroots is clear: Hon. Babatunde Hunpe remains the preferred choice to steer Badagry Local Government into its next chapter.
