The Oglogbo Community Development Association (CDA) issued a public notice warning residents about the potential outbreak, citing a worrying rise in deaths over the past five days. While the exact number of casualties remains unclear and unconfirmed by official health authorities, the CDA’s statement has stirred concern across the community.
Signed by its chairman, Mr. Brose Timothy Semasa, the notice urged residents—especially food vendors and community leaders—to act swiftly by adopting preventive health and hygiene practices. The association suspects the outbreak may be linked to contaminated food and water, coupled with poor sanitation and inadequate hygiene across the area.
Cholera, a fast-spreading bacterial disease, is commonly contracted through unsafe food or drinking water. It can cause intense diarrhea, vomiting, and life-threatening dehydration if left untreated.
In response to the alarming trend, the CDA advised residents to boil or treat their drinking water, keep their surroundings clean, and ensure proper food handling. The statement also appealed to the local government, health agencies, and emergency response teams to intervene without delay, calling for medical assistance and awareness campaigns to prevent further loss of life.
As of the time this report was filed, there had been no official confirmation from public health authorities. Efforts to reach local health officials for comment have been unsuccessful. However, several concerned residents contacted CityMood, claiming that the recent deaths in the area are linked to symptoms consistent with cholera.
Residents are strongly urged to stay vigilant and seek immediate medical attention if they or their loved ones experience severe diarrhea or vomiting.
The situation remains fluid, and health experts stress that early detection and proper hygiene are key to containing potential outbreaks.
