Princess Sesi, who addressed the media during a press conference with her supporters, expressed disappointment over what she described as misinformation and false claims circulating from the camp of Princess Oluremi. She insisted that contrary to those claims, Hon. Rauf Kayode Yemaren (popularly known as RIKAY) was the legitimate winner of the APC chairmanship primary election held on May 10, and that the official results announced at the APC Secretariat in ACME accurately reflected the delegates’ votes.
She urged key party leaders including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC State Chairman Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, and Justice Babatunde Ogala, who chaired the APC primary election committee, to disregard the “false narrative” coming from Oluremi’s camp, which she accused of political dishonesty and disloyalty to the party hierarchy.
Princess Sesi further stated that she had originally been penciled in as the vice chairmanship candidate, until the slot was withdrawn and offered to Princess Oluremi in what she described as an effort by the party to pacify Oluremi’s camp. Now that the offer has been rejected, she said it is only right that the party reverses the decision and reinstates her as the rightful vice chairmanship nominee.
“Someone who joined the chairmanship race barely two months before the primaries is now rejecting a position she was never even qualified for,” she said. “Meanwhile, I have been working towards this for more than two years, while serving diligently as the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Badagry West. I have over a decade of experience as a grassroots female political leader, both at the state and national level.”
Princess Sesi highlighted her roles as the Women Leader of the Tinubu-Shettima 2023 campaign in Badagry West, and as the Senatorial Women Leader for Senator Idiat Adebule’s campaign. “I have paid my dues,” she said. “No other female aspirant comes close to my pedigree. Yet, in respect for party supremacy, I accepted RIKAY’s victory, because he truly won the primary. It is sad to see others disrespect that outcome.”
On the issue of the vice chairmanship nomination, she said: “The leadership of Badagry West agreed on me for the role. I was surprised when the APC announced Princess Oluremi instead. Despite that, I remained calm out of loyalty to the party. But now that she and her camp have publicly rejected the nomination, I am pleading with the party leadership to return the position to me. That’s only fair.”
Princess Sesi praised the local leadership of APC in Badagry West, including Hon. Hontonyon Bamgbose and incumbent Chairman Hon. Gbenu Henugbe, for their steadfast commitment to fairness and truth. She urged them to once again do the right thing in the interest of unity and peace within the party.
This development follows a recent controversy after the APC declared Rauf Kayode Yemaren the party’s chairmanship candidate. Though some 13 out of 25 accredited delegates initially contested the result—claiming they all voted for Princess Oluremi—nine of those delegates later appeared in a Facebook live video, distancing themselves from the rejection of the vice chairmanship slot, and insisting instead that Oluremi be reinstated as chairmanship candidate.
Despite the mixed messages from Oluremi’s camp, the APC has stood by RIKAY as the chairmanship candidate for Badagry West. As tensions continue, all eyes are now on the party leadership to determine the next step ahead of the July 12 local government elections in Lagos State.
